"Pebblers” — Original Penguin Couple Painting | 36 × 36 Acrylic on Canvas

Some connections don’t need explaining.

"Pebblers” captures two penguins leaning quietly into one another, transforming a simple moment of closeness into a portrait of companionship, affection, and belonging.

The pair emerges from layers of turquoise, icy blue, and soft neutral tones, their recognizable forms interrupted by expressive marks, scraped paint, drips, and fragments of abstraction. A single red balloon floats beside them, introducing an unexpected note of playfulness and a vivid counterpoint to the cooler palette.

Graffiti-inspired marks and the painted @LOVE give the piece a contemporary edge, balancing the tenderness of the subject with a looser, more expressive energy.

At its center, though, the painting is remarkably simple: two figures choosing to be close.

Why Pebblers?

A friend once told me about the way penguins use pebbles in courtship by bringing stones to their mates and gathering them together to build their nests. I loved the idea so much that now, “Pebblers” became my name for penguins.

The painting doesn’t depict the exchange of a pebble. The title is something more personal: a nod to the story (& friend!) that changed the way I think of these wonderfully devoted, quirky little creatures and to the quiet connection between the two in this piece.

 "Pebblers” is about companionship in all its forms—the comfort of finding your person, leaning in, and knowing you’re exactly where you belong.
